FERIA THE AIR - S6 - Obliterating War Memories

EL AIRE - EJE FICCIONES -

The first transatlantic flight

In Literature we read a novel emphasising the cultural relevance of transatlantic communication in the 20th century.
The first chapter of Transatlantic by Colum McCann, “Cloudshadow”, describes in detail the preparations for the First Transatlantic Flight in 1919, as well as the dangers involved in this adventure.

Two young pilots emerge from the horrors of the First World War with deep hopes of finding new meaning to their lives.

I would like to congratulate S6 students on their creativity, accurate historical research and their effort to recreate the “spirit of the times” in the images and music of this short video which reminds us of the old black and white silent movies (1919).

One hundred and one years ago British pilots Jack Alcock and Arthur Brown became the first men to cross the Atlantic by air flying a Vickers Vimy plane.

Both had been pilots during the First World War and loved flying. They felt it was necessary to erase war memories and create a new beginning.
