Watch Senior 2's virtual TRIAL!

Students learned in Environmental Management about different types of rocks (and how they are constantly transformed in the rock cycle) but also about the mining activity (what drives the extraction of rocks and minerals, how important this activity is and which are the positive and negative impacts of mining).

We worked with different resources to prepare our final activity: a mock trial based on a cyanide spill that did take place in Argentina. Students had to gather information about the Veladero mine, Barrick Gold Corporation and the Jachal Assembly in the province of San Juan. With information from newspapers, academic articles, official websites and videos related to the topic, they were able to perform as lawyers defending Barrick Gold or prosecuting the company and as witnesses from different backgrounds. Rock solid arguments (pun intended ūüėČ) were heard in our virtual court room. Excellent work!
